Japanese Painting

Kanö School

s. XV – s. XIX

The Kanö school is one of the most famous schools of Japanese painting, founded by Kanö Masanobuda (1434-1530). It was a dominant style of painting in the late 19th century. until the Meiji period, which began in 1868.

Reflecting a renewed influence of Chinese painting, he developed a brightly coloured style, large panels reflecting Japanese traditions.
